Which mobile genres actually suit a commute

Which mobile genres actually suit a commute

There's a big gap between a game that's good at home and one that's good while standing on a jolting train with one hand on a rail. Over the years I've learned which genres hold up and which just frustrate you in transit.

Turn-based RPGs and strategy games are champions here. They pause for you, they don't punish a dropped connection, and you can play them in short bursts. Emberfall Saga became my go-to specifically because I could stop mid-fight.

Fast action and racing games are trickier. Grid Rush Velocity is fun, but tilt steering is useless when the train lurches, so I switch to touch controls. If a game forces tilt with no alternative, it's not a commute game.

Casual and sim games are the safe bet. Petal and Tide or a quick round of Legends of Slots fit perfectly into a few free minutes, and they don't demand your full focus if someone bumps into you.

The rule I've settled on: if a game can survive being interrupted every thirty seconds without you losing progress or patience, it earns a spot in my commute folder.
